Vervr Part 3: Fake it or make it?

Once upon a time, there was an engineer who was so satisfied at work that when they got home, they simply relaxed. They didn't touch a computer or a calculator. They maybe even picked up a book or dabbled with a puzzle. When the weekend came, they hopped on their dragon and flew to Saturn to play space billiards with the dinosaurs. Or whatever fictional people do.

After over a decade of doing expressly NOT that, it has become clear I recreate by using the same stupid part of my brain as when I'm at work. It seems I will always be pursuing a "side" project that someday might become a "main" project. Unfortunately, the "professional hobbyist" job market is tight these days, so anything that becomes a main project has to eventually make money.

Given that I seem destined to repeat this work/quit/fail cycle for all eternity (call me Swingandamissyphus), I'd love to improve my odds of actually building a sustainable business. On the other hand, making money isn't the point of recreation (unless your hobby happens to be counterfeiting).

This has me at a crossroads. I've got an idea that I'm excited about it, and that I think has real market potential (famous last words). As with my other ventures, I won't be able to turn this into a viable product by myself. When I started working on what became Vervr, I wasn't sure if my idea was technically feasible, so developing a prototype made sense. I think. If I had it to do over again, I might have tried to build a team and secure funding at the beginning. On the other hand, I might have never found anyone who thought putting VR on moving vehicles was a good idea, and therefore I wouldn't have gained all the experience (and character!) from this whole process.

I have long favored direction over speed, but does direction matter if you're standing still? If I'm not building, I feel useless. But building for the sake of building would just be kidding myself. So, I guess...watch every Dragon Ball Z episode and then revisit the issue? See you in 4 months.
