Welcome back! If you're here, you're family. Wait...no, if you're here that probably means you already read our first couple posts, so you know that we're building a completely different gaming experience. But is it just new, or is it actually better? Well, let's look at some of the ways that a VR-enhanced driving game could improve upon driving a go-kart around a "real" track. I don't think those quotation marks go there, but then again, I don't "own a toothbrush" so what do you expect?
Cool Thing #1: Any track, any time
You know what is disappointing about going to the go-kart track? It's the same course every single time. They only thing that changes about your experience is the people you're racing against, which ironically, might be the one thing you would rather preserve as to measure your progress as a driver. But if the track is virtual, it's just a matter of software. (developers love it when you tell them "it's just <enter extremely difficult and time consuming task>")
Cool Thing #2: Use your imagination
Where would you want to race? The moon? Your favorite F1 track? Your daily commute but without the traffic? It's all possible in the virtual world. You can do things you would never be able to do in real life, while your brain is thoroughly convinced it's actually happening (it might call B.S. on the traffic one).
Cool Thing #3: More than just racing
Have you ever wanted to be in a car chase while also shooting at the bad guys? What about playing Capture the Flag with a tank? Oooh, maybe you can finally learn how to back up a trailer without jackknifing immediately! By putting you behind the wheel of a vehicle, we have enabled your head, feet, and hands to all become input devices, which allows for much more complex scenarios. Put that brain to work!
Cool Thing #4: Ghosts
Remember, you're in the virtual world, we can put any ol' thing in there, including ghost drivers. Maybe you want to race your own best lap time (because of course we'll be storing that data for you), or even better, you want to follow a driver who knows what they're doing. Heck, someday that driver could be you. Sure beats just sticking your initials at the top of the screen, doesn't it?
Cool Thing #5: Virtual opponents
People are overrated, race against the machine! No longer will your driving experience depend on the random assortment of humans that also happened to be at the track on a Tuesday morning (called in sick again, eh?). Fire up a grand prix and fight our future robot overlords. Pick your desired difficulty level, and have some real fun.
Cool Thing #6: Worldwide multiplayer
Remember, this is all just a video game. Our multiplayer isn't confined to people at your local track. You can play against anyone in the world. If you're nice, we might even let you talk to them (don't make us regret this). (actually, we regret it already...)
Cool Thing #7: BYOT (Build Your Own Track)
Why let The Man make all the decisions? If you want to drive in right-handed circles for the entire race, we certainly won't stand in your way. We can't go full Roller Coaster Tycoon and let you design a track that launches people 100 feet in the air, but you can at least put in enough hairpins to have your friends wishing they didn't eat so much funnel cake.
That's probably enough for now. We've already made enough promises to keep our team of engineers busy for the next decade. I'm just kidding, we don't have a team of engineers. Did I mention I'm running solo at the moment? If you want to turn Cool Things 1-7 into reality, hit me up!
